Full Disclosure: I started out looking for a solution for Uploading Videos from google drive directly to YouTube on a computer.  I did not end up on a computer when I found the solution.

If you search YouTube or Google for this phrase “Uploading Videos from google drive directly to YouTube”, you will find lots of help. However, all that help is out of date. Even the posts and videos dated 7 months ago are not valid any longer.  If you read the old, old posts, they all show you a simple way to upload the videos directly from google drive to YouTube: go to your YouTube studio > click on Create Video > Click on Upload > Use the Browse to Google Drive > Select your video and upload it.

Nope the above no longer works. I have no idea why the option no longer exists. Google is often like that. They delete a useful feature or even a whole platform with little to no warning and no explanation.  They did it again with video uploads from google drive to YouTube.

The Old Way

Someone made a very useful google app that use to allow you to browse videos in dropbox, google drive and even Microsoft’s one drive and upload them directly to YouTube.  However, that app no longer works.  If you go through installing it and then trying to use it, you will get either an API key error or a generic this doesn’t work error.  There is no support for this extension, so we have very little recourse to try to get the extension fixed.

Google Drive directly to YouTube

The Only Way I found Worked

After lots of trial and error and searching the internet, I found an old YouTube video with a guy uploading a video from the google drive app directly to YouTube. However, when I tried the same thing on my iphone (I know – an iphone – not as cool as a Samsung, but it is pretty secure and stable!), I did not have the “Send a Copy to YouTube” option.

I decided that maybe the option is only available on an Android device.  I got my Samsung tablet out and opened the Google Drive app.  Voila!  I now have the Send a Copy To YouTube option available.

Here is my final procedure:

  1. Get an Android device – phone or tablet.
  2. Install the GoogleDrive app from the play store.
  3. Login to the app with your gmail account.
  4. Browse your drive files until you get to the video you want to upload.
  5. Touch the three dots on the upper right of the file listing.
  6. Touch the “Send a Copy To” option.
  7. Touch the YouTube app icon.
  8. Follow the prompts to allow YouTube access to the file you want to upload.
  9. The app sends your video directly to your YouTube channel. It works pretty well and without a lot of work.

Conclusion

If you are on a PC, you are pretty much out of luck as far as uploading a video directly from Google Drive to YouTube goes.  That is the bad news. However, if you have an Android device, you can Upload Videos from google drive directly to YouTube pretty smoothly.   I don’t know how I feel about that.  It kind of rubs me the wrong way.  I use a PC a lot, so it kind of stinks.
